7 Times Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Misses The Mark
3. Not Using '616' Mordo
We've known for a very long time, arguably since the first Doctor Strange post credit scene, that the sequel would see the return of Mordo. But not quite the way we got it.
In said post credit scene, Mordo appears to be on a quest to reduce the number of sorcerers, with the end goal looking like to be a conflict with Strange. So surely that is followed up in the sequel? Not really.
Even though heavily featuring in the marketing, and looking to be either the big bad or secondary antagonist, Mordo in this film is no more than a glorified cameo. His screen time is limited and his main standout moment is simply a fist fight with Strange (which seems a weird direction to take the moment in given their mystic abilities...).
In actual fact, this Mordo is not only barely on screen, but also isn't our Mordo. Chiwetel Ejiofor, who does an immaculate job in the role, is actually playing a Multiversal variant of the character. This Mordo hails from universe 838, rather than the main MCU universe of 616.
Therefore, this thread from the first film is still a dangling plot thread, and actually makes his appearance in this film almost meaningless.
