7 Times Fan Reaction Actually Changed Movies

1. Fantastic Four - No More Victor Domashev

The Initial Idea: Despite being an Eastern European dictator in the comics, Fantastic Four had a new origin for Doctor Doom. He was going to be Victor Domashev, not Victor von Doom, a hacker whose online alias was ‘Doom.’

The Fan Reaction: As the movie had already been throwing away classic mythology left and right, this seemed to be the final straw. When Toby Kebbell let this slip in an interview, the Internet went mad, and because of the overwhelmingly negative reaction, somebody decided that von Doom needed to stay.

Practically it wasn’t that hard to do, since the name ‘von Doom’ is only spoken by off-screen characters, suggesting that it was added in later. The problem is that in essentially abandoning the original character they created, Doom becomes incredibly boring as a result. As Victor, he’s basically a lesser-developed Reed Richards and as Doom, he’s just a generic bad guy who wants to destroy stuff.

The great irony of all this is even with their paltry attempts to make this character more like his comic book counterpart, the similarities are still almost unrecognizable. Domashev might not have pleased fans, but surely they would have preferred a more developed, albeit different villain to what they ended up getting.
