7 Trailers That Blatantly Lied To You In 2017
3. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
The Star Wars sequel trilogy has been all about deceptive tactics and curveballs so far. Who would have thought Rey's parents would turn out to be nobodies, and Supreme Leader Snoke's origins were unimportant?
The Last Jedi has been pulling the wool since its trailer landed and attempted to trick fans into thinking Rey would be tempted by the Dark Side of the Force. At the end of the promo, Kylo Ren extends his hand to the trainee Jedi, and out of context, this seems to suggest she will at least toy with the idea of siding with the villains.
However, embracing the Dark Side never crossed Rey's mind. She believed Kylo could be turned, and her intention was always to bring him over to the light, rather than betray Luke Skywalker and join him on the opposite side of the Force.
The trailer gave off the impression the heroine would feel villainy's pull by splicing two separate scenes together. That sequence where Kylo extends his hand in friendship and Rey's line about wanting to know "her place in all of this" are unconnected.
