7 Trailers That Blatantly Lied To You In 2017
4. Mother!
The promotional campaign for Darren Aronofsky's Mother! started out cryptically before dialling up the horror and Rosemary's Baby vibes. It came across like a home-invasion thriller with something even darker at its core.
Even those familiar with Aronofsky's body of work were surprised by the final product, which ended up encompassing the core components of horror - from claustrophobia to creeping tension - while carving a path away from the genre itself.
Mother! is hard to categorise. It's a tumultuous fever dream packed with biblical allegories and commentary on the artistic process which culminates in a sickening second act, but at no point is it anything close to the horror movie it was billed as.
