7 Ups & 4 Downs From Russell Crowe's Unhinged

3. Those Chase Scenes

The production and filmmaking techniques employed ensure that every car chase scene comes across as crazed and confusing. Cars smashed into one another (and road blockades) with a meaty thump, and they're particularly gruesome looking without showing blood or body parts flying everywhere.

Then, there are the close-ups.

Borte's crew clearly adore creating a sense of dread. Shots of Crowe inside his vehicle regularly looked at him from odd angles, whereas Pistorius was deliberately shot from slightly overhead so she looked smaller and less imposing. Of course, the intention was to present Crowe's Tom Cooper as an ominous threat, and it worked.

This was also true of fight scenes. One could barely make out what was happening when Cooper was throwing Rachel around her mother's bedroom, and it was impossible to predict what was coming next. These close-ups, whilst difficult to watch, did the trick.
