7 Ups & 4 Downs From Russell Crowe's Unhinged

That spoiler warning was there for a reason.

Unhinged's ending is typical fare. The goodies win, the bad guy gets his comeuppance and everyone (well, not everyone) lives to fight another day/possibly go through endless hours of PTSD therapy. By the end of the film's 93 minutes though, something else becomes clear: Borte wasn't concerned with reality.

After Rachel (Pistorius) and Kyle (Bateman) Hunter shut Russell's Crowe's Tom Cooper character down, they're "free to go". The movie does a poor job of explaining just how soon after Cooper's death this happens; was it minutes? Hours? Who knows. Worse, the mother and son combo are allowed to waltz from the crime scene in a vehicle that'd surely be seized for evidence.

This, unfortunately, raised a bit of a titter from some in the cinema when it happened. Borte spent so much time leaning on realism that it seemed absurd for any police person to let people involved in a city-wide rampage drive away in a smashed-up estate.
