7 Ups & 4 Downs From Russell Crowe's Unhinged

1. That 'Deadman' Sit Up

Generally, Russell Crowe's character comes across as an everyman who has lost his damn mind and is thus dangerous. He's like a psychotic version of Ricky Gervais' Tony during the first season of After Life, at least in the way he disregards his own life as meaningless and decrees that this is some sort of superpower.

Then, he turns into The Undertaker.

A recurring flaw with most thriller/horror movies is that the directors never know where to go once they've fully-explored the monster's motivations. Here, that boils down to Crowe getting stabbed through the eye with some candy cane scissors and then sitting up like it's WrestleMania and he's some supernatural force.

Pistorius' character boots him in the mush again and it's curtains for Tom Cooper, but...was that 'Deadman' sit up really necessary? Couldn't they have left Crowe drowning in a pool of his own blood and brain fluid on the bedroom floor rather than having him rise up for more?
