6. Paul Giamatti Is Exposition And Only Exposition
The ever-brilliant Paul Giamatti plays Lawrence Hayes, a seismologist at the California Institute of Technology, whose sole job throughout the movie is to reel off exposition about the San Andreas Fault's activity and basically let the audience know that even more s*** is about to go down. Of course, Giamatti rips through the dialogue with as much gravitas as you could expect, and while he's no doubt happy for the easy paycheck (given that his part was probably filmed over just a few days), it's an almost hilarious waste of his talents. It's certainly a part that suits him just fine, but he barely has any character development at all beyond serving to guide the viewer through all the destruction.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
