1. Wasting Away (2007)
What is so different about it? Wasting Away offers a completely unique take on the zombie genre. When a group of friends on a night out eat ice cream that has been exposed to a hazardous serum (which was intended to enable the military to create super-soldiers), they become zombies. However, they don't realise that they've become zombies and are puzzled as to why people are fleeing from them and why the world seems so fast all of a sudden. When they look at each other, they see themselves as normal, but to other people they are slow moving corpses. This leads to a funny kissing scene which, from the main characters' perspective, looks romantic and passionate but, from everyone else's perspective, looks like... well... two zombies slobbering all over each other - which is what it is. The film switches between colour (when seen from the main characters' point of view) and black and white (when looking at the characters in their zombie form from everyone else's point of view). It's an enjoyable, if not slightly silly, movie which was praised for its uniqueness and innovativeness despite its low budget and it currently has a score of 61% at RottenTomatoes.com.
Why have you probably never seen it? Because it's another low budget offering that went straight to DVD. However, it's one that all zombie fans should definitely get round to seeing!
