7 Ways Jared Leto's Joker Will Be Different To Heath Ledger

5. Ledger Was A Gangster, Leto Is A Ringmaster

Leto's Joker's wardrobe has attracted a lot of criticism, but, whether you like it or not, it's a pretty huge marker of how his Joker differs from Ledger's. Look, if you can stomach it, at Leto's Joker's sweatpants. That is the legwear of a man who is completely at ease, and who doesn€™t have to run many errands; he has people to run around doing those sorts of things for him. That might be the key difference between the two: Ledger was involved in the dirty business of conducting bank robberies, firing rocket launchers, and even infiltrating the Gotham City police department to shoot Jim Gordon; Leto€™s Joker looks to be more of a puppet master. All the shots we€™ve seen of him so far have had him looking pale and crazed in dark rooms; it doesn€™t look like the guy gets out much, put it that way. Ledger€™s Joker was very traditional in the sense of sticking to the purple frock coat and waistcoat combo, but Leto€™s goes for a bare, muscular chest, slicked hair, a cane, shiny grills and an iridescent calf-length fur coat and ends up looking like a psychotic pimp from a dystopian future. Ledger looked and acted like a gangster, whereas with Leto you get the feeling that he€™s leading the circus from a distance, directing the action but at a remove from it.
