7 Ways The Arrowverse Is Better Than The DCEU

3. Supergirl And Superman

Before anyone begins complaining, this isn't a jab at Henry Cavill as Superman in the DCEU. In fact, Cavill is actually pretty great as Superman but the writing is just too much of an uphill battle for the Man of Steel. In the DCEU, Superman is written to be morally challenged and inflicted with the pain of the world to add depth to a character that is sometimes perceived as being nothing more than a caricature.

Developing these sorts of conflicts for a character is nearly always a great way of fleshing them out, but not if it's at the expense of who the character is at their core. Regrettably, this was the fate of Cavill's Superman, who struggled to bring any sort of optimism throughout his tenure.

It would be perhaps unfair to compare him directly to the Arrowverse's Superman, as the latter has only had a handful of appearances as gleeful as they were. Instead, Supergirl, who isn't so different from Superman, has excelled in all the places that the DCEU's Superman should have. She's optimistic and hopeful for the future; she overcomes her initial naivety of the world without becoming a cynic; and she doubts herself and her alter ego in moments of weakness.

The Arrowverse allows its Supers to be internally conflicted without spiralling the show into a deep depression.
