When Warner Bros. first announced a new Harry Potter spin-off franchise, fans were beside themselves with excitement. After all, the original Harry Potter series was a huge part of many people's childhood. With J.K. Rowling herself at the scriptwriting helm for the series, it seemed very little could go wrong.
The first film in the Fantastic Beasts series was moderately well received by Harry Potter fans. Though it had its faults, overall it was a fun adventure, that gave us a glimpse into the culture of the wizarding world in America. Fast forward to the sequel. Crimes of Grindelwald was received by fans with mixed reviews, to put it lightly.
Most fans found it to contain a jarring amount of unnecessary fan service. Another common criticism was that the script felt crowded and clunky. The fact that some of these reviews came from die-hard Harry Potter Fans is a bit disconcerting for the future of the franchise.
That being said, there are still three more films to come and if J.K. Rowling has taught us anything, it's that she knows how to pull together a fantastic final act.
