7 Ways The Next Fantastic Beasts Film Can Turn Around The Franchise
3. Flesh Out Queenie's Switch To The Dark Side
Many fans were upset with the decision to make Queenie switch to Grindelwald's side at the end of the film. Her character is such a ray of sunshine that it almost seems unbelievable that someone like her would follow a man who is so clearly evil. Especially since it didn't appear to take much convincing to sway her.
At the start of Crimes of Grindelwald, Queenie is already giving off vibes of being a bit unhinged. She's definitely not the same Queenie we fell in love with in the first film. One thing people need to remember is that Queenie can read minds. Whatever it was that she read in Grindelwald's mind convinced her that he was not as evil as people made him out to be. This twist is probably meant to set up Grindelwald as a very talented Occlumens, much like Voldemort was. The film does not do the greatest job of explaining this, making her choices seem out of character.
Unfortunately, it appears that her character development became a casualty in the scope of a film that was already feeling crowded. In the next film, we need to spend more time with her character, so we can better understand her choices.
