7 Ways The Next Fantastic Beasts Film Can Turn Around The Franchise

4. Give Professor McGonagall A Reason To Be In The Wrong Time

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald
Warner Bros.

Avid Potter-heads were quick to judge McGonagall's appearance in Crimes of Grindlewald. According to Rowling's own canon, McGonagall should not have been born yet, let alone be a professor at Hogwarts. Had anyone other than J.K. Rowling written the screenplay this would have probably rolled off of people's backs.

However, this cameo came from the hand of Rowling herself. It could have been an oversite, but it does not make her look great from a storyteller point of view. Because of the history that Rowling has posted to Pottermore, it cannot be explained away as a relative of Minerva's. Her father, who gave her the name McGonagall, was a muggle and she is the only female predecessor. Regardless of how or why the cameo came to be, it is something that should be addressed in the films to come.

Remember that it was Professor McGonagall who gave Hermione a time turner in the third Harry Potter. It is possible that in this case McGonagall has used one to travel back in time, to aide young Dumbledore in his battle against Grindelwald. Sure, it would take a meticulous amount of turning, but who other than Minerva McGonagall would be able to pull it off?
