8 Actor Replacements In Movie Sequels That Totally Sucked

7. Robin Williams/Dan Castellaneta - Genie

AladdinAladdin is, without a doubt, the funniest movie that Disney have ever made. This is all thanks to the presence of Robin Williams - who made it okay for Hollywood A-listers to provide the voices for animated characters - in the role of the Genie. Williams improvised much of his dialogue during the production of Aladdin, and it certainly shows: the Genie comes across as a zany stand-up comedian, eager to impress anybody who will give him the time of die after 10,000 years of imprisonment in a magical lamp. Simply put, there was no replacing him. Williams made the movie, and without him it would probably not have been half as successful (or half as hilarious). When it came time for the sequel, though, Williams had fallen out with Disney when they broke a term in his contract, so he refused to come back for what was, at the time, the first ever Disney sequel: Return of Jafar. Dan Castellaneta was brought in to replace him (voice of Homer Simpson) as a result, and although he does a good job of impersonating Williams, it's just not the same. Apparently even children could tell something was off about this new Genie (a lack of gags and impressions, for one), and several parents wrote to Disney to complain on behalf of their younglings. Kids used to be mighty passionate about these things, apparently.
