6. Rachel Weisz/Maria Bello - Evelyn O'Connell
It's in these sorts of cases, when an actor has played a character on two memorable occassions, that I bring out one simple question: "What's the point?" If Rachel Weisz didn't want to return for the third installment in the
Mummy trilogy, why didn't they just write her character out of the story? It was certainly workable that way, and a romantic interest could've been brought in for another character inside - Alex O'Connell, her son, perhaps? Anyway, rant over, though my point stands: Maria Bello was recast as Evelyn O'Connell, the central female protagonist in
The Mummy and
The Mummy Returns and now this movie that's set in China instead.
One of the great things about the first two movies was the chemistry Weisz shared with co-star Brendan Fraiser (hey, it can happen), but Bello lacks that aspect entirely. She also doesn't act like the character she's supposed to be playing at all. It's not like this is a reboot or something - you're meant to be playing an established character, Maria!
