8 Actor/Character Combinations To Bring Oscars To The MCU

5. Eddie Redmayne - Eddie Brock

Eddie Redmayne - an Academy Award for Best Actor winner for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in 2014's The Theory of Everything - has expressed a desire to appear in a comic book movie. In fact, he admits that he has auditioned for several without success - citing the fact that he is "not Hugh Jackman" (in terms of his build) as being one of the main reasons behind his failings so far. Many fans have called for him to play Spider-Man, but Tom Holland now has that role, so what about Eddie Brock AKA Venom? The Ultimate version of the character is not a muscular brute like the classic 616 version, so Redmayne could fit the bill there. He's also Peter Parker's friend, so he could have a very prominent role in any Spider-Man movie. Moreover, the fact that he still becomes Venom (via a genetically created "suit" rather than a symbiote), so he could still be a villain too. The fact that the character has two extreme personalities - caring friend and vicious foe - would be a good test for any actor's mettle. Topher Grace failed terribly. Eddie Redmayne - whose roles have ranged from the aforementioned Stephen Hawking to the evil and greedy Balem Abrasax in Jupiter Ascending - could succeed brilliantly.
