8 Actors Desperate To Hide The Truth In Movies

1. Tom Cruise's Real Height - Vanilla Sky

Tom Cruise is living proof that a handsome face, intense commitment to his craft, and a boatload of charisma can ultimately overcome a short stature in the action hero stakes.

Cruise's height is widely reported to be 5 feet, 7 inches - that's two inches shorter than the average American man, and on paper a seemingly diminutive height for a man whose bread-and-butter is playing statuesque badasses.

It's been alleged for years that Cruise has a complex about his height and even wears lifts in his shoes on-set to make him look taller - especially when working opposite leggy actresses.

Though it's something few are left compelled to think about while watching most of Cruise's movies, he did perhaps unintentionally draw attention to it in 2001's sci-fi thriller Vanilla Sky, during the sequence where his protagonist David is arrested.

While having his mugshot taken, David is positioned against a height chart, with his height registering at just a hair shy of six feet - around four inches taller than he is in real life.

As such, we're led to assume that Cruise either stood on a small platform or the height chart was lowered. Either way, Cruise was clearly trying to hide his real stature.

To be clear, though - few moviegoers could give much of a damn about Cruise's height considering the fine work he does, with the exception of his attempt to play a 6 foot, 5 inch Jack Reacher, that is.
