8 Actors Desperate To Hide The Truth In Movies
2. Kevin Costner's Receding Hairline - Waterworld
Male pattern baldness is a concern for many actors, who perhaps fear that their viability as a handsome leading man might be affected by hair loss - an unfortunate reality in the deeply image-conscious bubble that is Hollywood.
And ever since Kevin Costner's 1995 box office bomb Waterworld hit cinemas, there have been persistent reports that the star had a chunk of the film's stonking $175 million budget spent on digitally "fixing" his receding hairline.
Though adding volume to an actor's hair isn't especially complicated as VFX goes, back in 1995 it was certainly more of a challenge than it would be today, and apparently spoke to Costner's own anxiety over his thinning head of hair.
All the same, you'd never guess any digital trickery had been invoked from watching the end product, so in the very least it's a completely convincing feat of "invisible makeup," right?
