8 Actors We Wish Hadn’t Already Appeared In The MCU

If you want an actor to play a compelling villain or an edgy father figure, then you're always guaranteed a winner with Mikkelsen, which is why his boring performance in Doctor Strange felt like such a waste of his talent.

It's safe to say that the early days of Marvel had a bit of a problem with creating exciting villains. The likes of Whiplash, Abomination and the previously mentioned Malekith were the norm, and almost every antagonist was a disappointment. However, things started to get better from Phase Three onwards, as the MCU started to make their villains more complex, leading to greats like Vulture, Killmonger and eventually Thanos.

If Mikkelsen's character of Kaecilius were to have come from Marvel's early days, he might have felt more in-keeping, but by the time Doctor Strange came out, it seemed like the MCU had shuffled past its villain problem, making this one exception all the more frustrating.

Kaecilius was a bit of a nothing character, as he had barely any motive, nuance or exciting qualities - no matter what the gnarly makeup may tell you.

What makes it worse is that Mikkelsen had previously turned down the role of Malekith due to scheduling conflicts, meaning he dodged one bullet and ran right into another.
