1. George Clooney Got Himself Ready To "Kill" David O. Russell On Three Kings
Talk of conflict on David O. Russell's sets used to be the norm. Now an Oscar favourite thanks to the three-in-a-row hit-storm of The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, Russell was until recently a director with a reputation for antagonising cast and crew. Stories about Russell are legendary: he got into a shouting match with Lily Tomlin on I Heart Huckabees in which he called her a "f***ing c**t" (you can watch it now on YouTube), put Christopher Nolan in a headlock because Nolan wanted Jude Law to take his movie instead of Russell's, and - most famously of all - he got Hollywood nice guy George Clooney mad enough to start wailing on him. It involved Clooney standing up for an extra on the set of Three Kings, Russell headbutting Clooney, Clooney taking Russell by the throat and - in Clooney's own words - preparing himself to "kill" Russell. Though Russell and Clooney have since cooled off (though not before Clooney said he'd "sock him right in the f***ing mouth" if Russell ever came near him again), Russell's new reputation for having 'cleaned up' his act is seemingly not 100% correct - a leaked email from the Sony hack revealed that Russell is still at it, with Christian Bale having to get all up in the director's grill on American Hustle because Russell had so "abused" Amy Adams. Who knows, the next Russell fight might just be around the corner. Do you know of any other instances of stars coming to blows with their directors? Let us know in the comments below.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
