8 Actors Who Hated Working On Batman Movies
1. George Clooney - Batman & Robin
Long before George Clooney was an Academy Award winning performer and one of the most bankable names on the planet, the ER star was brought in as Val Kilmer's replacement for Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin. The rising star felt this was the opportunity of a life time and simply couldn't wait to be involved in a "big successful franchise movie", as he put it.
"Big" is certainly one way of describing the universally slated sequel to Schumacher's only slightly less painful Batman Forever, but "successful" Clooney's stint in the cowl was not.
In the years that followed this disastrous flick, Clooney has openly confessed that he regrets donning the suit in the first place.
Speaking some time after Batman & Robin flopped, the actor said:
"With hindsight it’s easy to look back at this and go, 'Woah, that was really s--- and I was really bad in it.' It was a difficult film to be good in."
Clooney has also admitted that he keeps a photo of himself as Batman on his office wall as a reminder of what can happen when you take a role for purely commercial reasons. He even advised Ben Affleck against accepting the part of Bruce Wayne too.
Over the years, the actor frequently apologised for his role in the film which forced Warner Bros. to reboot the whole franchise. However, if Batman & Robin never happened, would Christopher Nolan's genre defining, realistic masterpieces have still been forced into existence?
It's hard to say for sure, but all is definitely forgiven at this point, Mr. Clooney. Just don't pick up the bat-phone if it ever starts ringing again.
