First Role: Doctor Strange in Doctor Strange

Second Role: Dormammu in Doctor Strange

Talk about a big first impression. It simply wasn't enough for Benedict Cumberbatch to strap on the red cape, ridiculous amount of belts and Tony Stark-esque facial hair to become Doctor Strange, Marvel's newest big-screen hero - he had to go one better.

During the film's climactic battle, the magical doctor squares off against the powerful, mystical, alternate-dimension dwelling Dormammu. This huge CGI beast was played by none other than Cumberbatch himself, who provided the facial capture movements for the villain.

When asked about the double role, director Scott Derrickson mentioned the idea came from Cumberbatch, who assumed that Dormammu wouldn't usually have eyes and a mouth when travelling through the Dark Dimension, so would only take on a physical form in order to communicate with Strange.

Doctor Strange will next be seen in Thor: Ragnarok later this year, and we're fairly confident that will be the only part Cumberbatch is playing. Watch this space.

He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too.
