8 Actors Who Seriously Injured Themselves For Movies

3. Isla Fisher Almost Drowned In Now You See Me

Everyone knows that stage magic all comes down to sleight of hand and showmanship, rather than actual witchcraft (if you didn€™'t, I€™m terribly sorry to have to be the one to break it to you, this is really something your parents should'€™ve taught you). So, of course, it stands to reason that, in a Hollywood movie all about magicians, there would be an awful lot of special effects wizardry at play.

I mean, to show one of your lead actors performing a Houdini-esque escape from a water tank, you wouldn€™'t actually drop them into a real tank of water with their hands bound, would you? Except, that€™s exactly what director Louis Leterrier did. In the name of realism, Isla Fisher was shackled and submerged in water for a scene and instructed to bang on the glass as if she was struggling.

All well and good, except for the fact her chains became entangled, preventing her from reaching the kill switch to drain the tank or alerting the nearby safety diver, leaving her with only one option to convey her plight: banging on the glass. Thankfully, the crew realised she wasn'€™t just giving the performance of a lifetime and was, in fact, drowning. However, by that point, she€™d been underwater for nearly three minutes.
