Though Christian Bale really hates it when people refer to his "trademark weight fluctuation", the actor's yo-yoing body shape is one of his most distinctive performance flourishes. Furthermore, he's once again pulling it out in order to play former Vice President Dick Cheney in Adam McKay's new comedy-drama Backseat.
Bale gained a large amount of weight in order to play the stocky politician, to who he doesn't really bear much of a natural resemblance, though when you combine the weight gain with a fancy suit and some decent make-up, the actor forms a pretty decent likeness.
It's certainly getting to the point where there's more worry for Bale's health than anything - constantly wavering weight can't be good for the heart - but his commitment to his roles is nothing if not admirable.
