8 Actors Who Went Out Of Their Way To Insult Their Fans
1. Simon Pegg Criticises Nerd Culture, Offends His Entire Fanbase
Was Simon Pegg's now-notorious interview with the Radio Times earlier this year an example of a star biting the hand that feeds, or did the actor-comedian actually hit the nail pretty precisely on the head? Whatever the case, the people didn't care - they just wanted blood.
Said interview began innocently enough, with Pegg telling the reporter he missed the age when "gritty, amoral art movies" were big. Then Pegg went on to say, "part of me looks at society as it is now and just thinks we’ve been infantilised", ruing the fact he'd become a "poster child" for geekdom.
Obviously this didn't go down well - the "Adults are watching this stuff, and taking it seriously!" line particularly rattled some - as it applied to Pegg's own Star Trek/Spaced/Cornetto Trilogy fans. The backlash prompted Pegg to write a rebuttal to reassure the nerds he was still one of them, just a bit of a self-hating one that couldn't seem to grasp he'd directly contributed to the very culture he was criticising.
