6. Sigourney Weaver And Stephen Lang - Grace Augustine And Miles Quaritch (Avatar 2)
It's easy to forget in the excitement of the impending release of countless returns to actual classic franchises, but Avatar sequels are on their way. That pluralisation isn't a typo either - because stand-alone cinema is for suckers with only three swimming pools, James Cameron is planning to have a trilogy of movies set on Pandora. What's strange about this is that, even though the first movie is the highest grossing film ever, Cameron doesn't seem too keen about actually recognising the original Avatar, having it serve almost as a tech reel for the actual story (which it kinda was). To whit, Dr. Grace Augustine and Col. Miles Quaritch will both be returning for the later films, despite both being pretty overtly dead by the time the credits rolled on the first one. Maybe Cameron realised Sam Worthington isn't the next-gen leading man he thought he was in 2009, but, even so, this is a questionable way to compensate. Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang are good actors and, playing broad caricatures aside, were fine in Avatar. But not enough to invalidate that movie's ending by having Grace resurrected by Eywa and Quaritch be one of a brand of clones.
