The Last Man On The Moon is remarkable for being one of the few documentaries on the moon landings to feature direct and prolonged collaborations with one of the astronauts involved. The film – directed by Mark Craig – is written and stars Eugene Cernan, the last man to have stood on the moon.

Interestingly, the documentary takes a much keener look at the effect the entire process had on Cernan and his family's life, revolving around his wife's famous comment “if you think going to the moon is hard, try staying at home”.

The documentary does a fantastic job of humanising Cernan and depicting the very real tension that the dangerous mission created within the astronaut's home.

Not only that, it focuses on the relationship between Cernan and his daughter, whose initials he spelled in lunar dust before leaving the moon's surface, and who was more interested in camping with her father when he returned home than hearing about his experiences.
