8 Awesome Reasons Why The 80's Movie The Wizard Remains Relevant

4. The Never-ending Send Me An Angel Cycle

The pop anthem by Australian band Real Life blares as the kids travel from town to town in a fanciful montage full of ferris wheels, grazing sheep, and a giant spider. It's not the most serious tune either, as the lead singer narrates his tale about his burning heart and a girl possibly drawing her name there.

Released six years before The Wizard, the original version of Send Me An Angel peaked at number 29 on the Billboard chart. The 1989 remixed version of the song that appears in the film fared a little better and reached number 26. While it was a notable eighties hit, nobody could've predicted that a song about being unlucky in love would have such a fortunate shelf life.

Since that montage, the song's been covered dozens of times in the nineties, the early 2000s, and in the present decade. California rockers XO Stereo redid the hit on their 2015 starter album The Struggle. The latest version comes courtesy of Massachusetts rockers Highly Suspect who covered Send Me Angel on their 2016 album The Boy Who Died Wolf.

While the musical world has reinterpreted the Real Life creation in several styles, the gaming industry wasn't left out in the cold. "Send Me An Angel" was featured in Grand Theft Auto V, a series Jimmy might've enjoyed himself.
