The battle between Batman and The Joker in The Dark Knight Returns ended with the villain breaking his own neck in order to frame the Caped Crusader for his murder. That obviously won't work here, but paying homage to such a moment in Batman V Superman would be nothing short of amazing. Snyder could easily create some sort of homage to this scene, even if it's just The Joker wearing a white suit as he mercilessly attacks Robin, a scene which could conclude with Batman then giving the Clown Prince of Crime the scars he's covered in in Suicide Squad with a recreation of their fight from this famous story arc. The filmmaker has made it clear that Batman V Superman won't be an adaptation of Frank Miller's classic story, but it's already become apparent that it will include some significant nods to it. And if The Joker is going to make a cameo appearance in the movie, it would be a massively wasted opportunity to not somehow link that to the key role he played in The Dark Knight Returns. If a battle between Batman and The Joker is a little too much to squeeze into this movie, then why not find a way to recreate the moment where The Joker is interviewed on television? It's not remotely hard to imagine the lunatic becoming a pseudo celebrity these days, so Bruce obsessively watching archive footage of that would be a great way to get across his desire to bring down the villain once and for all.
