8 Bad Movie Franchises And How To Fix Them
4. The Wizarding World - Stop Foreshadowing The Books
What's The Problem? We have to talk about the Fantastic Beasts films, and how they went from a whimsical dive into more of the magical world of Harry Potter, and after just two films have become a narrative mess.
This was Warner Bros' opportunity to tell a story that was completely separate from the books, and while it was nice to give fans younger versions of the original characters- the end product just didn't make sense.
The second film became so convoluted and messy with the timelines and lineages of the Wizarding World, two-thirds of the film didn't make a lick of sense.
What's The Solution? For the upcoming third film, a huge course correction is needed to steer away from the characters and mythology from the original seven books/eight films.
Yes, a young and sexy Dumbledore is delightful to see, but are these films about Newt Scamander or an origin story for Dumbledore (and essentially Voldemort)? The Wizarding World has a great opportunity to tell so many different stories across time, and for the films to retreat safely to stories once told in the original books is too bland a move.
The Wizarding World films should take risks, and here's hoping the recently announced TV series will do the same, otherwise fans will just have a boring interconnected tale not too dissimilar to the last three Star Wars movies.
