8 Bad Movie Franchises And How To Fix Them
3. The Expendables - Give Audiences The Nostalgia They Paid For
What's The Problem? Ultimately, there isn't anything wrong with the films; if a fourth installment were to come out next year I'm sure movie audiences would love it to bits.
But Sylvester Stallone's Rolodex of legendary action stars appeared to wear thin by the third film. With half the original cast sitting out of most of the film and instead being replaced by a younger generation, it felt like the very gimmick and selling point of Expendables had been discarded entirely.
What's The Solution? It's simple really: forget this "new generation" nonsense that was scripted into the third film.
Bring in the old guard: Michael Biehn, Mark Dacascos and Carl Weathers haven't made their debuts yet. The films were sold to audiences as an adult-version of smashing toy action figures together.
Remember when there was talk of an all-female Expendables? Well here's your cast! Linda Hamilton, Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee-Curtis, Milla Jovovich, Noomi Rapace, Halle Berry, Zoe Saldana, Charlize Theron and Scarlett Johansson - they are all iconic action heroes in their own right. And would make exceptional additions to the Expendables Extended Universe.
Come on Sly, make it happen!
