The list of actors who were almost cast for Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy seems to have been long enough to rival IMDB and the director apparently went through lots of names to play his villains - particularly in The Dark Knight.

Actors like Paul Bettany, Adrian Brody and Sam Rockwell were up for The Joker while Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Jackman were among those considered for Harvey Dent. Given those two names in particular - as well as Aaron Eckhart - you can really see what Nolan was going for with his nice guy gone bad approach to the character.

The ultimate almost-cast candidate in that category was Matt Damon, who has confirmed he was up for the role, but couldn't commit because of a scheduling conflict. That much is a shame, especially given how little we've been able to see of Damon's range for darker characters, and he definitely would have offered a great take on both Dent and Two-Face.
