2. Darwin - X-Men: First Class

Darwin, although awkwardly a victim of the 'black-guy-dies-first' trope (I mean, did it really have to play out that way? Come on Fox, get your sh*t together), still went out like a true hero. Sebastian Shaw, having tracked down our fledgling mutants at their temporary CIA HQ, attempts to recruit them to the Hellfire Club. Only Angel Salvadore steps forward, and Darwin bravely makes the move to feign joining Shaw. Protecting Angel, he shouts for Alex, who tries to zap Shaw with one of his hula hoops of death. Not understanding Shaw's powers, the debonair villain absorbs the energy and turns to Darwin, obviously pissed as hell. He force feeds it to Darwin, who can only swallow it whilst his power to adapt to survive attempts to circumvent it. He goes from metal to rock and finally to ash; the look on Havok's face as Darwin reaches out for him is heartbreaking. A noble sacrifice, and tragically, an unnecessary one.
