8 Best Donald Glover Roles

When Disney announced that they were making a new version of beloved animation classic The Lion King, everybody was pretty excited. Then it was announced that Donald Glover would play the adult Simba, and Glover fans everywhere lost their minds.

Glover was the clear and obvious choice to play Simba because of the sheer range of talents that he has, and looking back it is hard to see just how many other people could have played Simba - falling short of bringing back Matthew Broderick, of course.

What has to be said here is that The Lion King was always guaranteed to make at least $1 billion dollars, so Glover will have known that the weight of expectation was on him to create a new Simba for a modern generation who had both loved the original and wanted to see this epic new version.

Now, was The Lion King 2019 as good as its predecessor? Unfortunately not. However, this didn't seem to bother the audiences who flocked to cinemas like Antelope to see this photorealistic version, as the movie took in a whopping £1.6 billion at the box office.

For his part, Glover played Simba well. He nailed the songs that had been made classics 25 years before, and gelled well with Beyonce's Nala. So, though the film was found wanting, Glover's reputation came out of it in good shape.
