8 Best Misdirections In Horror Movies

5. It Was Mrs Voorhees - Friday The 13th

This one is more of a retrospective misdirection of sorts for those who go back and check out the original Friday the 13th movie for the very first time.

Much like Michael Myers is synonymous with the Halloween franchise, Freddy Krueger is synonymous with the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, Leatherface is synonymous with the Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise, etc, so too is Jason Voorhees the name you instantly associate with the Friday the 13th series.

For those who simply know that Jason is the 'big bad' of the franchise, they're in for an almighty shock when viewing the 1980 movie. That shock, of course, is that the person responsible for that first Camp Crystal Lake murder spree is Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees.

Pamela would be referenced in Friday the 13th Part 2 and then again in Part III, but her role in Jason's story wasn't really given the spotlight once more until post-Scream. In Wes Craven's Scream, the whole misdirected, misunderstood notion that people nonchalantly think Jason is the killer in the first Friday offering is touched upon - much to the misfortune of Drew Barrymore's Casey.

After Scream put a spotlight on all of this, audiences would see Pamela become an integral part of 2003's Freddy vs. Jason, as Freddy Krueger took on the guise of Mrs Voorhees as a way to manipulate the hockey mask-adorned killer.
