8 Best Misdirections In Horror Movies

4. You've Been Watching A Ghost - The Sixth Sense

M. Night Shyamalan has become famous for the twists and turns - for better or for worse - that each of his movies feature. Few filmmakers in the modern era love to toy with their audience as much as Syamalan. And as alluded to, sometimes this can result in something jaw-dropping, while other times it can result in something face-palming.

The first time that Shyamalan appeared on the radar of most film fans, was back in 1999 with The Sixth Sense. A tense thriller overflowing with horror tones, this movie proved to be Shyamalan's greatest hour, yet also his curse - for this was the standard that audiences would hold him to for his future projects.

There's no two ways about it: The Sixth Sense is an all-time classic.

Like so many other movies that rely on a twist, the film obviously loses something on repeated viewings once the cat is out of the bag. But man oh man, it was a great piece of misdirection from Shyamalan to get to the picture's skewed ending.

For the entire film, we see Bruce Willis' Malcolm Crowe serving as a child psychologist to young Cole Sears (Haley Joel Osment) to try and help the kid out with the supposed ghosts that he sees. The big reveal would be that Willis' Malcolm was dead all along, just another ghost who Cole could communicate with.

In going that route with the film, M. Night Shyamalan had put his misdirection out in clear daylight for us all to see - just we never knew it was there!
