8 Best Number 8 Films In A Franchise
4. Son Of Godzilla
In the summer of 1998, a confused-looking Godzilla had lost his way. He'd taken a wrong turn down Hollywood street, and ended up as second billing to Matthew Broderick in a vain attempt to turn his giant green self into a summer blockbuster. It failed, and poor Godzilla was left having to find his own way home to Japan by hitching a free ride back with Mothra.
The recent reboot has done much to rectify the mistakes of the 1998 dud, but this current incarnation still feels a million miles away from 1954 when the original Gojira first laid his roots in Japanese cinemas.
The Gojira franchise has notched up an incredible 27 film outings in Japan but these films had no fancy CGI, they only had actors in rubber suits to help an audience suspend their belief in the king of monsters.
One of the most memorable in the Gojira series was number eight - Son of Godzilla. Released in 1967, this entry in the series finds Godzilla and Godzilla Jr., the inescapably cute Minilla, join forces in the ultimate 'bring your kid to work' day. Except in Godzilla world, 'work' means fighting giant spiders and mantises, and not boring admin and paperwork.
