8 Big Changes The Death Note Remake Made

2. The Rules Of The Death Note

One of the few similarities between the original and the remake is that the Death Note has a lot of rules, but they differ between the two.

The most important rule of the Death Note is that if a cause of death is not written within a specific time limit, then the victim will die of a heart attack. Light uses this as his signature, so people will pick up on the possibility of a god passing judgement.

The remake completely abandons this, and opts for convenient rules to suit the changed plot. The problem with removing the heart attack rule is that it introduces a number of plot holes. For example, how did people pick up on the possibility of a serial killer if everyone dies in a different way?

In the manga, Light uses the fact that the Death Note can kill in other ways to eliminate obstacles whilst evading the Task Force.
