8 Big Changes The Death Note Remake Made

1. Light Is An Idiot

Arguably, the most disappointing change.

In the manga, L and Light are intellectual equals, but each other’s foil. Light is a charismatic sociopath, whilst L is an eccentric oddball. The manga is gripping because they match each other perfectly.

In the remake, Light’s status as L’s equal is abandoned, which makes the ‘battle’ between L and Light less riveting, because L figures it out in a heartbeat. Light only escapes because L is too emotional.

Throughout the film he makes a number of baffling decisions. He shows Mia (a girl he barely knows at this point) the power of the Death Note to impress her! He basically tells L that he is Kira, and the location of a page of the Death Note. Light Yagami would have killed his remake equivalent in an instant for being too much of a liability!

In short, Light Turner is a vulnerable and naïve protagonist, who successfully irritates the audience.
