8 Biggest Casting Mistakes In 2016's Superhero Movies
8. Tom Holland As Spider-Man
While it may make sense from a storytelling perspective, casting such a young Spider-Man is hard to get excited over regardless of who's in the role. After all, both Sam Raimi and Marc Webb spent a lot of time with a high school/college age Peter Parker, and the majority of fans would prefer to see a Spider-Man who is equal to his fellow Avengers, and not just some kid who looks up to them. As I mentioned though, it really wouldn't make a lot of sense to have an adult Spider-Man suddenly appear out of the blue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! If anyone can make a high school Spidey work, it's Kevin Feige, but is Tom Holland the right choice? I don't think so. While he may have impressed as a youngster in The Impossible, he didn't exactly make a huge impact in In the Heart of the Sea, and without a really notable strong performance to point to, it's hard to get excited over the prospect of him taking on this role from Captain America: Civil War and beyond. While there's still every chance he might do well, there were a lot of far more interesting names on the various shortlists which did the rounds when Marvel were casting the role, and Holland was never really on the top of anyone's wishlist when it came to suggestions from fans. Marvel had the chance to really get people excited with this casting decision, but the feeling online instead seems to be the complete opposite of that.
