8 Biggest Casting Mistakes In 2016's Superhero Movies

7. Ryan Reynolds As Deadpool

I almost feel guilty describing Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool as a casting mistake, especially as his love and passion for the character is so clear to see. The actor has wanted to make this movie a reality for years now, and regardless of whether it's a flop or hit, it's fair to say that fans will always be grateful to him for giving the role his all. However, the problem with casting Reynolds is the baggage that decision brings with it. His association with X-Men Origins: Wolverine probably isn't too much of an issue all these years later (especially as Deadpool will likely find a way to poke fun at the creative decisions made in that movie) but the fact that the actor hasn't starred in a hit in years is. He simply isn't anywhere near being a box office draw after a string of massive flops, and that is going to be a major issue for Deadpool, especially for fans who are hoping it will score big at the box office and be the first of a series of movie revolving around the Merc with the Mouth. Another issue appears to be the fact that Reynolds is bringing his trademark brand of humour to Deadpool, something which led to a lot of the lines in the new trailer falling flat in a big way. This is a movie with a weird enough tone as it is, and that potentially alienating humour is going to be yet another issue. As much as some fans would have been upset, casting someone entirely unexpected for Deadpool would've been smarter.
