5. Why Does Nobody Recognise The Droids?

To prevent the enemy from getting its hands on their memory banks and, more importantly, avoid massive plotholes going forward, Revenge of the Sith ended with R2-D2 and C-3PO's minds being wiped.

That explains why the droids don't recognise any of the characters they previously encountered from Episode IV onward, but there's something about this equation that doesn't add up.

Given that the recognition should have been a two-way street, why doesn't Obi-Wan Kenobi acknowledge his previous meetings with R2-D2? And Uncle Lars should have known full well who C-3PO is.

Darth Vader had previously crossed paths with both droids, but since he's more machine than man by this point, the fans can probably overlook his lack of an emotional response towards them.

Either this is a plothole, or the make and model of these droids is overabundant in a galaxy far, far away.
