6. Peggy Jean
Peggy Jean became Charlie Browns first girlfriend when they met at summer camp or, to more accurate, she was the first girlfriend of Brownie Charles, because thats how a flustered Charlie Brown introduced himself to her. Ultimately Charlie Browns insecurities and bad luck put an end to the relationship, especially when he couldnt choose between dating Peggy Jean or continuing to pine for his longtime unrequited love, the Little Red-Haired Girl. In Peggy Jean's final appearance in the strip, she reveals to a brokenhearted Charlie Brown that she has a new boyfriend. As nice as it is to see Charlie Brown happy at least for a little while Schulz firmly believed that what made Charlie Brown so easy to relate to and what made the strip so funny was all the obstacles and disappointment Charlie Brown faced in his life. In fact, what makes Peggy Jean so weird is that the effect she has on Charlie Brown makes him into almost a totally different character. Charlie Brown having a girlfriend for much a movie wouldnt make him as much of a loveable loser even if she always calls him by the wrong name.
