8 Bizarre Peanuts Characters You Probably Won't See In The Peanuts Movie

5. Royanne Hobbs

Long-haired baseball player Royanne Hobbs has the distinction of being the pitcher whom Charlie Brown hit his first home run against. Giving up a game-winning home run to the player-manager of the worst baseball team in the neighbourhood was a huge embarrassment to Royanne, who accused Charlie Brown of ruining her life. When the teams play again that summer, Charlie Brown hits another home run off Royanne and wins another rare victory for his team. The primary joke behind Royanne is that she claims to be the great-granddaughter of Roy Hobbs, the baseball hero depicted in the 1984 film The Natural. While her name seems to bear that out, Charlie Brown eventually points out to her that it€™s impossible because Roy Hobbs is a fictional character. This revelation makes her accuse Charlie Brown of ruining her life again. After a short storyline in which she managed to swindle Lucy into buying what she claims is Roy Hobbs€™ legendary Wonderboy bat, Royanne disappeared from the strip. Even when Royanne first appeared in Peanuts in 1993 the Roy Hobbs joke was already a little dated. Being that The Natural is over 30 years old, the joke is too old for most of The Peanuts Movie's audience.
