8 Bizarre Peanuts Characters You Probably Won't See In The Peanuts Movie

1. Charlotte Braun

Of all the obscure Peanuts characters, Charlotte Braun is by far the most bizarre. In the mid-1950s, Schulz introduced a female character who appeared to be a mirror version of Charlie Brown. Despite looking like Charlie Brown €“ except for her long curly hair €“ and her similar name, Charlotte Braun was not depicted as being related to Charlie Brown. Instead, her gimmick was that she annoyed the other characters by speaking too loudly. In fact, decades before the invention of the PC or the Internet, Charlotte Braun appeared to be the first person to shout by SPEAKING IN ALL CAPS. However, Charlotte Braun was too similar to Lucy - who is known to shout quite a bit herself - who was just coming into her own in the strip at that time. After appearing infrequently over a period of three months in the mid-1950s, Charlotte Braun was quietly removed from the strip by Schluz. It initially appeared that Schulz had simply grown tired of the gimmicky character, but shortly after his death it was discovered that Schulz had received a letter from a fan more than four decades earlier asking him to drop the character. Schulz not only replied, but did so with a picture of a frowning Charlotte Braun drawn with an axe in her head to signify that he killed off the "innocent child" in response to the fan's request! Because of that, Charlotte Braun might be the only Peanuts character who actually is dead. Regardless, The Peanuts Movie is better off without such a weird, one-joke character.
