8 Cancelled Movies We Secretly Still Want To See

2. Batman Unchained

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Sinister Six
Warner Bros. Pictures

The Unmade Movie: Batman And Robin feels like an endpoint; of silly Batman, of the original Burton-Schumacher run, of the pre-serious superhero fad: a culmination of everything the previous movies had been building up to. But it wasn’t meant to be – Bats, Robin and Batgirl running off was meant to lead to many more Schumacher movies.

The next one (third for the director, fifth for the series), Batman Unchained, was being developed during Batman And Robin because Warner Bros. were so impressed with the footage of that trainwreck (shades of Batman V Superman, there), and was set to see Batman go up against Scarecrow and Harley Quinn (that classic duo) and featured a scene where Batman faces his old foes under the influence of fear toxin, with the original actors reprising their roles; Joker, Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler, Two-Face.

Of course, Batman And Robin wasn’t quite the hit Warner expected and the plug was pulled before things could move any further.

Why It’s Such A Shame: OK, let’s be honest here – this would have been complete and utter sh*t. There’d have been endless straw puns, a clunky Harley and more of Clooney’s smarmy Batman. But doesn’t that central scene sound amazing? Bringing back the likes of Jack Nicholson for one last go round would be fan bait before movies were nothing but fan bait.
