8 Cancelled Movies We Secretly Still Want To See

1. George Lucas' Star Wars Episode VII

The Unmade Movie: As I said in the intro, it’s something of a miracle that we got an Episode VII at all, let along a great one that reunited the main cast and left us hopeful for the future. But The Force Awakens wasn’t always the route for Star Wars 7.

There’d been the notion of following up Return Of The Jedi ever since Episode VI, and when he sold Lucasfilm and the rights to Star Wars to Disney, they came with the creator's own story treatments for the entire sequel trilogy.

At the time, when the deal was a risky proposition, this was a major selling point – the guy who started it all is here, don’t worry – but once people accepted their new Mouse overlords they were very swiftly put aside. Sadly, the content of those movies has never been released (and as long as Disney’s making new films probably won’t).

Why It’s Such A Shame: How good these ideas are is totally unknown. They could be the mad ravings of a madman or genius of a madman – after all, while the prequels had a lot of poorly developed elements to them, the overarching story is solid. Regardless, this is the Episode VII that had been cooking since Sebastian Shaw’s Force ghost slowly appeared on Endor, so to have seen it realised really would be film history.

As for what it actually entails, all we know is that it dealt with younger leads – teenagers – and that, as Lucas wasn’t too hot on the “retro” stylings of The Force Awakens, would have been a more forward-pushing, tonally distinct movie. Now that I do kinda want to see.

What other cancelled films do you really want to see? Should out your favourite "What if?" down in the comments.
