8 Completely Ridiculous Movie Concepts Currently In Development

TETRIS MOVIE

If you thought Fruit Ninja was a thin concept for a game-to-film adaptation, consider Tetris; a game with one camera angle, one mechanic and nothing else to speak of. Of course, it's immensely popular, which is why it was snapped up in the first place, but that doesn't justify the movie's existence - pens are popular, but you wouldn't greenlight a pen movie.

And yet, laughably, Hollywood wholeheartedly disagrees. The producer of the Tetris movie, Larry Kasanoff, reckons that the story that's been conceived is "so big" that it warrants a trilogy. That's right, folks. The story-based behemoth that is Tetris couldn't possibly be condensed down into a single two-hour movie, so we get three. Lucky us!

The movie aims to shoot in China and feature Chinese actors, which will work wonders for those final box-office figures. And while the film will probably make money, it's hard to argue that a single Tetris feature - let alone three - is pushing things just a little too far.

Development Status: Conceived as a sci-fi epic, Tetris was announced in 2014 with Threshold Entertainment on production duties. It was turned into a trilogy earlier this year, but so far, we don't have a release date or a director.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
