8 Completely Ridiculous Movie Concepts Currently In Development

A Magic 8 Ball is certainly a fun little distraction if you find the need to fill a couple of minutes, but beyond that, its appeal quickly subsides.

But apparently, some bright spark over at Paramount is a bit too fond of Nicholas Cage, with the studio intent on turning the toy into a "National Treasure-style action-adventure movie". Why? In the words of the Magic 8 Ball, "Ask again later". There's simply no rational answer.

Now, National Treasure can be pretty entertaining to watch, but to go from the concept of 'a magic ball that answers your questions' to 'a globe-trotting historical treasure-hunt' is a huge, huge stretch. Why even bother attaching the Magic 8 Ball name to this? Why not just make an adventure movie? That question does have an answer - money - but that doesn't change the ridiculous nature of the idea.

Development Status: Whisperings of a Magic 8 Ball movie date back as far as 2006, with director Tom Shadyac attached at Universal Pictures. Flash-forward to 2010 and the project ended up at Paramount, with a new pair of writers and a new creative team. Since then it's been in development hell, but the movie is still very much a possibility.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
